For our 8th graders a camping trip means stepping into a world that feels completely new: tents to pitch, trails to hike, and meals to cook over a fire.

That unfamiliarity is the point.

When our boys figure out something they’ve never done before, they learn they can adapt, problem-solve, and keep going. That independence will serve them well in high school, where they’ll walk into new spaces and often find few people who look like them.

Just as important, these trips bring our boys closer. Around the campfire, the jokes get sillier, the stories get longer, and classmates become more like brothers.
