A Proven Path Forward

Purpose Today. Futures for a Lifetime.
OUR PURPOSE:
San Miguel School provides a transformative, values-based education for boys from underserved communities in Washington, D.C. Funded entirely by donors, our tuition-free model combines rigorous academics, extended learning, and personal support to prepare each student to thrive in high school, college, and life.
OUR FUTURE:
We envision a Washington, D.C. where every boy has access to a high-quality education with proven pathways to college, career, and leadership. By expanding our reach, strengthening academic and graduate support, and deepening impact, San Miguel will deliver measurable outcomes for generations to come.

Our History, Rooted in Lasallian Values
Founded in 2002 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, San Miguel School was created to address low high school graduation rates among Hispanic boys in Washington, D.C. Beginning with just six students in the basement of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the school has grown to serve approximately 90 students each year. Rooted in the Lasallian tradition, San Miguel combines rigorous academics, extended-day learning, and personal support to help young men succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

Support That Lasts a Lifetime
Our commitment doesn’t end at graduation. Through the North Star Alumni Program, San Miguel supports students with high school placement, college guidance, and career readiness—from high school through college and into the workforce—because belonging to the San Miguel community is a lifelong bond.

Who We Serve
At San Miguel, we partner with boys who carry immense potential and come from families committed to a brighter future. We seek students who embody curiosity, integrity, resilience, and the drive to grow. We aim to reach young men whose families believe in them and want more—a pathway out of barriers and toward opportunity.

The Opportunity Gap — and How We Close It
Too often, high-quality education is out of reach for Latino and underserved boys. In Washington, D.C., fewer than half of low-income Latino males graduate high school. Nationally, only about 30% of Latinos enroll in college.
San Miguel defies those odds: 100% of our graduates finish high school, and 90% of our most recent class went on to college. Many of our students are the first in their families to graduate high school or speak English fluently. When given opportunity, they thrive—and their success radiates back to their families and community.

With the Right Support, the Sky’s the Limit
At San Miguel, education isn’t just about what happens in the classroom. We wrap students in support: mentoring, extended-day learning, enrichment, character formation, and a community that sees them fully. That’s how we turn potential into trajectory—and help these young men walk confidently into high school, college, and leadership.
