Sports Anchor Moisés Linares Speaks to San Miguel Students

“School is the vehicle that will take you to where you are going.” Emmy-award winning sports anchor Moisés Linares shared this message with San Miguel students on Monday, November 14 as he recounted how he came to find his path and achieve his purpose - and great success.

Linares, who anchors for Telemundo and NBC Washington, offered wisdom and motivation. Throughout his talk and amidst answering student questions, Linares emphasized the value of education and the importance of the work that students are doing right now in middle school.

The first in his family to graduate from high school and college and a first generation Salvadoran American, Linares told San Miguel students, “I see myself in a lot of you guys.” He suggested to students that they dream big, work hard and not let anyone tell them they can’t do what they set out to do.

One eighth grader noted that he felt he could relate to Linares, and planned to keep his advice in mind. “I took away the importance of having discipline and determination, and I know I have a purpose.”

Linares gifted several signed copies of his book, We Are Not Born Failures, to San Miguel.
