How We Do It

How does the San Miguel School of Washington do it?

Parent involvement
The school helps parents play an active role in the progress of their children through regular reports and conferences, and the presence of bilingual personnel.

Extraordinary teachers
Apart from the lengthy school days, these dedicated professionals give many of their evenings and days off to meet with parents.

Extended school day
San Miguel’s day begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM.

Small classes
With a limited student body, San Miguel can cap class sizes at about 15.

Focus on English and math
Along with classes in religion, social studies and science, students take three English and two math classes per day.

Extended school year
Half-day classes take place four weeks during the summer to maintain educational momentum. The summer experience includes regular field trips and a week of summer camp.

The St. John’s connection
San Miguel students travel to St. John’s to use its top-notch computer, science and art labs, as well as its sports facilities. St. John’s students serve as tutors and its teachers lend a hand in San Miguel’s after-school program.
